How to prepare for a meet:
- Attend practices and work hard at them
- Get a good night's sleep before the meet
- Avoid too much time in the sun the day of/before the meet
- Eat a healthy breakfast the morning of
- Know what you are swimming:
- Event, heat, and lane
- Coaches will email out a Meet Program the night before
What to Bring to a Meet:
- SHARK'S TEAM SPIRIT!!!
- Sportsmanship and a good attitude
- Team Suit + Team Cap
- Goggles (2 pairs)
- Towels (2)
- Sweatpants and sweatshirts (yes it can get cold, and shivering wastes energy!)
- Sunscreen
- Water and/or sports drink (no soda!)
- Healthy snacks - fruit, power bars, bagels, cereal - anything high in carbs but no sugars (donuts and sweets are ok after your events are finished)
How to make the meet a success:
- Arrive early!!!
- Take warm-ups seriously
- Stay warm, when you exit the pool, dry off and put warm clothes on
- Stay hydrated and eat healthy foods during the meet (save sweets for when your events are done)
- Respect your coaches:
- Listen to and obey your coaches, they are in charge
- Know what events you are swimming, listen for those events to be called
- Do not leave the team area without permission from a coach
- Stay until the end of the meet, but if you have to leave you must let your coaches know before you go
- Respect your teammates:
- Participate in the team cheers before the meet, and cheer for your teammates during their events (a loud meet = a fun meet)
- Respect your opponents:
- At the end of every race
- Stay in the water until everyone finishes swimming
- Congratulate the swimmers next to you by giving a high five, fist bump, or handshake
- Pick up a minimum of 5 pieces of trash before leaving, and/or return any chairs you moved.
- Be sure to leave the team area (home or away) looking better than when you arrived
- At the end of every race
DON'T FORGET TO HAVE FUN!!!!
Get in the water! Do your Best! Self improvement, and being a good teammate is what this is all about!
